IT IS TIME WE TAKE A STAND AGAINST THE MASSIVE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS TAKING PLACE.

As the LGBT community in the United States fights for legal equality, the LGBT community of Uganda fights for their right to live.
MP David Bahati originally proposed what is now known as the “Kill the Gays Bill”, creating homosexuality in Uganda a crime ranging in punishment from seven years in prison to death. Those in danger also include any Ugandan citizen who fails to report a known homosexual.
Many United States senators and Evangelical leaders alike have been tied to a group largely responsible for the promotion of homophobia in the U.S. and abroad, and in turn the creation of this bill. These names include:
• Sen. James Inhofe (OK) • Sen. Sam Brownback (KS) • Sen. Jim DeMint (SC) • Sen. Chuck Grassley (IA) • Sen. John Thune (SD) • Sen. Joe Pitts (PA) • Sen. Bill Nelson (FL) • Sen. Mark Pryor (AR) • Rep. Bart Stupak (MI) • Don Schmierer (author and “homosexual recovery group” advocate) • Scott Lively (anti-gay activist and president of Defend the Family International) • Caleb Lee Brundidge (“sexual reorientation coach” at the International Healing Foundation)
The bill has fueled an intense media campaign against LGBT citizens in Uganda, creating an overwhelming atmosphere of fear, hatred, and violence. Aside from the Ugandan government’s recent vicious attacks against the LGBT community, the nation is marked by a long history of violations against democracy and civil rights.
On Saturday, June 4th, 2011, we will stand in front of our nation’s political heart in establishment of our simple assertions:
- Creating awareness of the support of the bill received by U.S. officials and American Evangelical leaders
- Pushing the Uganda nationals here to condone overseas actions
- Urging U.S. politicians to take a strong official stance against the bill and remove all current aid to a nation that has so vehemently violated basic human rights
Absolutely no civil rights victory in history would have been possible had the people waited for the government to move first.
